“Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Mt. 11:28-30)

It’s a busy time of year. Getting busier. Holidays melt into one another. Christmas is here, already.

When I worked at the grocery store, Thanksgiving was a BUSY day to work the Service Deli: lots of folks came in at the last minute and wanted Turkey Dinners. We always tried to figure out how Thanksgiving could sneak up on those folks, but it did.

Looking at our November calendar, I can see how life might sneak up on us. This first week of November spills over into the second week and we rush headlong all the way through Advent into Christmas, when “God with us: Emmanuel,” is born a human baby, and lives and dies and rises to heal us so that we can fully live.

It would be very easy, again, to rush with the “Season;” to go over our limits of time and money; to let life get ahead of us; to let His birth sneak up on us. To forget to be thankful for His Gift and for our lives.

Or, we could take His yoke upon us, no matter what we’re doing, and breathe and remember Whose we are, who we are and who we love. We could trust the Love of our Living God to give us rest in the midst of our busy-ness. We could surrender our lives to Him, and become yoked with Him, or as Pastor Kent would say, to abide in Him.

You know how it feels to be done with Thanksgiving dinner, and have all the dishes done, and have the kids in bed, and the neighbors gone home, and just sit in a quiet house and breathe in the Love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord, and rest and give thanks? Let’s do that this year.

“Give thanks with a grateful heart, give thanks to the Holy One, give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ His Son.” (2232 TFWS)

Blessings, Pastor Bethany
